Hard work and obedience to your parents will propel you to achieve success, says Marvin Kumar.

He received the dux award for Nasinu Gospel Primary School yesterday.

Marvin said despite many challenges he had to go through, he persevered his way up to grab the top award.

“My mother works as market vendor and this success belongs to God and her,” he said.

“Because of her sacrifice I was able to attain the dux award today.

“Waking up every day seeing her struggle and trying to provide a decent meal for us, I promised myself to work hard in school to make her happy.”

Marvin said this year was an important year for him to strive to be the best and achieve his goals.

There was so much competition at school, Marvin said it was tough to obtain excellent grades to be a dux.

“There was a lot of competition in our class, but we formed a study group together and it was an amazing experience,” he said.

The hardships his family endured pushed him to aspire for a better life so that he could help his parents

He aspires to become a pilot one day.

His elder sister Morishna Singh said they would always encourage Marvin to study hard every day.

Ms Singh said communication and understanding was a key part of their brother’s success.

“At home we always encourage Marvin to stand up for himself and work hard because we know what society is like, especially for him as a young man,” Ms Singh said.
