Matokana Villagers Advised To Use Water Wisely

Villagers of Matokana in Onoilau, Lau, have been advised to use water wisely.
Village headman and spokesman, Josefa Nadavo said dry spells had affected the water level of the village’s borehole.
Mr Nadavo said water was rationed for families to use.

He explained villagers were saving water to cater for visitors this festive season as they expected the dry weather to continue.
Mr Nadavo said some visitors had already arrived on board the Princess Moana and more would arrive this week.
He said members of the mataqali (clan) Naceva living in Viti Levu would be arriving this week to commemorate the 100th night of the passing away of their leader (vakataraisulu).
According to Mr Nadavo, all taboos put in place because of the death would be lifted.
The date for the occasion has yet to be decided.
A welcome church service for the visitors was held on the island yesterday.
