Matua Student Picks Up Trophy

Returning to the classroom after a lapse of three years changed Mitieli Turagakeli’s perspective to life.
Mr Turaganikeli could not complete his secondary education at Ratu Navula College in Nadi in 2021 due to some circumstances.
Life was a challenge for him because without proper qualification earning a decent and consistent income was impossible.

Returning to school at Nabua Secondary School this year was a dream come true.
Last friday was a good shift for 20 -year-old when he was awarded the most disciplined cadet at the Nabua Secondary School cadet passing-out ceremony.
The Matua programme at NSS pay dividends in the lives of students like Mr Turagakeli who is grateful to be back at school.
He said returning to school in search for a better future came with a lot of determination and faith.
“Receiving the best disciplined student award is a big achievement with the struggles I have been through,” he said.
“I wasn’t expecting to receive this award but I’m grateful for the sup- port of teachers and my parents for always keeping me in their prayers.”
He said the two months of training offered by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces inspired him to join the force one day.
“While it was necessary to return to school in reality is was hard,” he said.
“We I was accepted at the beginning of this year I had set my goals, I am not going to return to my village in Talenaua, Serua empty handed.
“To win this trophy is the start, I am confident in achieving another level at the end of this year.
“I just want a better life and make my parents proud.”
