Christmas and New Year celebrations will be the least in Iva Mckay's budget to spend her income on.

The 17-year-old is a Year 12 student of Votualevu College.

During the school holidays and her free time, she always helps her mother, Mariana Divikoca, a vendor at Namaka Market in Nadi.

She hails from the island of Ovalau.

She has been helping her mother at the market since she was in year three.

She is well equipped with day-today business and expenses used for her family.

She lives with her mother and brother at Legalega, Nadi.

Income earned from the market pays for her education together with her nephew and niece whom they live together.

It also pays the rent, bills, food and other expenses.

"I always put my trust in her because I saw how she handles the business," Ms Divikoca said.

They sell root crops, vegetables and greens.

During Christmas and New Year's Day they will be selling at the market.

This weekend, crowds of people will be doing their shopping for Christmas, but for Iva, her income, will be directed to the first shopping for her school stationery for 2024.

"Most of my friends at school planned to look for holiday jobs at supermarkets to prepare us for next year," Ms Divikoca said.

"I am thankful that we have a business here in the market."

Iva aspires to be a doctor.
