Members Departure Overseas For Work Affects Coffers
The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma general secretary Reverend Semisi Turagavou has noticed that members leaving for overseas under the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme has affected the churches levies over the past few years.

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma general secretary Reverend Semisi Turagavou has noticed that members leaving for overseas under the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme has affected the churches levies over the past few years.
Reverend Turagavou made this comment after he raised concerns on the increase of members leaving for overseas under the scheme.
He said this was noticed by the superintendent of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma in its 59 division.

“As far as we know, the financial statements that were given this morning for the year 2019 to 2020 and the previous years, our accounts are stable,” he said.
“Yes, some of the members going overseas have affected the church. It affects the collection of levies from divisional.
“We are concerned about workers moving abroad, especially if they are members of the church. We rely on these members.
“The church has received information from affiliated members that there was an increase in numbers of members moving abroad for work.”
He said the church would conduct a study to find out whether this has caused a drop in the number of membership.
