He secured the presidency after gathering 58.8 per cent of the 780 votes cast during the conference.
Prior to his election, he was the general secretary for a year.
“It’s a very challenging role, but it’s not new to my blood. Former church president, the late Reverend Manasa Lasaro, was my uncle,” the reverend said.
“In fact, I have other senior ministers in the church who I am also closely related to.”
While he plans to continue the church’s strategic plans involving education, evangelism and economic sustainability of members, he stressed the importance of the church’s relationship to other religious bodies.
“I think relationship is very important,” he said.
“So, I hope we will be partners in evangelism and economic sustainability.”
Outgoing president Reverend Ili Vunisuwai was happy with the appointment of his successor.
“I’ve come to the finish line,” the reverend said.
I’ve done my service to the church and the community, and I think I’ve done what was best.”
He also gave his blessings to Reverend Turagavou.
“I know that he will be able to manage the church properly,” Reverend Vunisuwai said.
“That shouldn’t be a problem. I have confidence in him.”
