Following a nationwide consultation process, the national minimum wage (NMW) rate will now be increased to $4 per hour in four tranches.
Fiji’s first ever national minimum wage rate was introduced in 2014 for unskilled workers at $2 an hour.
Since then, the rate has been raised twice: first to $2.32 an hour in 2015, and then again to $2.68 an hour in 2017. Following the increase in the NMW, the 10 sectoral minimum wage rates will also increase. Further details are provided in the Employment Relations (National Minimum Wage) Regulations 2022.
