There will 200 projects starting soon with each project allocated $15,000 to assist minority groups with poverty alleviation and community development.

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, emphasised they now could go ahead with multi-ethic affairs work after a Budget was allocated for them.

He made this comment during a recent visit to Labasa.

“We now have a budget, last fiscal year we did not have a budget,” he said.

Mr Singh confirmed that all these projects will commence from next month onwards.

“The ministry has identified 200 projects whereby they will hand out $15,000 per project across the country.

These projects will be organised and run on an annual basis.

The projects are linked with poverty alleviation, community development projects of minority groups.

“It is also to assist people with road infrastructure challenges,” he said.

Mr Singh said the ministry would ensure their key prioritises would be fulfilled and ensure each project exceled to improve the lives of recipients.

He said the interest of multi-ethnic groups and minorities would be heard and assisted.

Specifics on how the projects would be managed are yet to be disclosed, but Mr Singh said members of the public would be informed in due course.
