A Nakavu Village schoolteacher who lost his home in an early morning fire this week has received assistance from the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa.

The fire, which broke out around 3.45am on Monday, 10 November, completely destroyed the home of Jotame Tabulawaki, a teacher at Nakavu Village School.

The estimated damage is valued at $25,000 for the property and $12,000 for furniture, electrical appliances, and clothing.

Minister Nalumisa personally reached out to Mr Tabulawaki, offering both financial assistance and emotional support to help him recover from the loss.

“Mr Tabulawaki looks after our children for over eight hours a day from Monday to Friday and has touched countless lives, and now, it's our turn to support him and his family in their time of need,” the Minister said.

He also called on members of the public to assist the teacher and his family in any way they can.

The Minister’s gesture, he said, reflects the spirit of compassion and unity that defines Fijian communities — particularly in times of hardship.

Mr Tabulawaki can be contacted on 9514702 for those wishing to offer support.
