The Ministry of Waterways has started maintenance works on floodgates and flap gates at Soasoa, Labasa to help prevent flooding.
A resident, Muthu Swamy’s property which is near the road always gets flooded.
He is 59 and is a sugarcane and rice farmer.

He claims that for over five years he has been requesting relevant authorities to carry out maintenance on the four-barrel floodgates and one flap gate along the Soasoa seawall.
