The Kawakawa and donu ban is from June to September every year, as it is their spawning season.

Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau said the ban was beneficial for everyone.

“Complying with the ban, we will bring the stock to sustainable level.

“The Ministry deployed 60 Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD) and has conducted training on it. Through these initiatives, the Ministry has supported the establishment of Fishermen’s Associations,” he said.

“The idea is to use the Associations to channel Government support through training. It is important to note that the threat of poaching is inevitable. Therefore, the Ministry will through the Fishermen’s Association in Cicia, conduct Fish Warden training to equip Wardens to police your qoliqoli.”

“When they came to the village and talked about the ban then we got to know the reason for the ban. In the village we always ensure that no one goes against the ban.”
