More Collaboration Between Fiji-Japan

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday witnessed a signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Investment Fiji.
The closed meeting was held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel in Japan on the margins of the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10).
Investment Fiji chief executive officer Kamal Chetty, who signed the MoC, said that such initiatives open up more investment opportunities for Fiji.

“For us, this meeting during the PALM, one of the outcomes was for more collaboration between JETRO and Investment Fiji,” Mr Chetty said.
“It was witnessed by the Prime Minister, the reason for that is because we wanted to cooperate deeper.”
Mr Chetty said there were a number of events now earmarked under this MoC to allow more confident for investors.
The MoC’s main goal is to increase bilateral cooperation by collaborating technically on trade and investment projects while abiding by relevant rules and regulations.
The pact offers Fiji access to cutting-edge technology, more Japanese investment, and knowledge to support economic growth.
It also includes, Japan benefiting from expanded commercial prospects and a stronger market position in the Pacific.
Important projects within the MoC include sharing policy and research materials, exchanging information on trade and investment prospects, and organising investment missions and seminars jointly.
The objective of these endeavours is to foster active participation within commercial circles and encourage investment between Fiji and Japan.
