Those found smuggling contrabands into Fiji Corrections Service facilities will face serious legal consequences.
This is the warning from Corrections Commissioner, Jalesi Nakarawa after more contrabands were found during a search conducted at the Suva Remand Centre at Walu Bay, Suva on Monday night.
Confiscated were substances believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine, Fijian tabacco (suki), gas lighters, mobile phones, smoking apparatus, syringes, earphones, makeshift chargers, screwdrivers, USB devices, and wires.

Mr Nakarawa said it had been a challenge for officers to deal with overcrowding, smuggling of contrabands and illicit drugs into the Corrections facilities.
“We are also grappling with severe overcrowding at the Suva Remand Centre, which is currently housing more than 400 inmates, more than double its intended capacity of 200,” he said.
“Despite these challenges, we remain unwavering in our efforts to curb drug smuggling and hold accountable those who attempt to introduce illegal substances and prohibited items into our facilities.”
Mr Nakarawa is calling on the public to support efforts to uphold the security and integrity of the correctional system.
“The Fiji Corrections Service remains steadfast in its mission to ensure public safety, enforce institutional security, and support the rehabilitation of those in our care,” he said.
“As part of the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on drug use and staff collusion in contraband smuggling, FCS personnel will continue to undergo random drug tests.”
