More COVID-19 Help Flies In

About 3.5 tonnes of personal protective equipment (PPE) arrived into the country yesterday as part of joint humanitarian aid by countries and global organisations.
The help which arrived onboard Nauru Airlines Boeing 737-300 are COVID-19 relief efforts thanks to the United States, Japan, Australia, the United Nations World Food, World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and Asian Development Bank.
Other humanitarian aid onboard the flight, at the Nadi International Airport, were for Nauru and Kiribati.

US Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Antone Greubel said the US government-supported flight carried critical supplies to help Pacific Island countries fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said, “The delivery of critical supplies that are life saving. The US government is very proud and contributed $5 million support to the World Food Programme’s (WFP) logistics operation in the Pacific to support response efforts to COVID-19 and other humanitarian crises throughout this vast region of island nations.”
UNICEF Pacific Island Countries rep Sheldon Yett said: “These supplies are essential to stay safe. It is a partnership UNICEF is providing critical supplies to the Pacific with the Ministries of Health. We thank the Fijian Government.”
ADB Unit Head Economics and Programming Reik Aalbers said: “It is crucial for the international community to come together at this time.”
