Police in Labasa have arrested several people for allegedly possessing illicit drugs at the municipal market since January 1.
Acting Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North Superintendent of Police (SP) Eroni Soqosoqo, said the arrests would send a strong warning to drug peddlers.
A 35-year-old farmer of Kilikoso, Labasa was found with nine sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, while a 42-year-old unemployed man of Qelewaqa, was arrested at the Labasa Market Taxi Stand after being found with some dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Labasa Market Vendors and Farmers Association vice-president Waisea Makulau commended the efforts of police in the arrests.
Mr Makulau said police should continue their drug raid and arrest those people who tried to misuse the market premises for illegal businesses.
Another 40-year-old man from Qelewaqa was arrested at the Labasa Bus Stand after alleged in possession of 11 sachets of dried leaves believed to marijuana.
A chef from Valebasogo was also arrested on January 2 after being found in possession of four sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
