A 32-year-old taxi driver will be appearing at the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court today for one count of obtaining financial advantage.

Police M-PAiSA Taskforce arrested a man who posed as a supermarket staff and obtained $700 from public members who paid for groceries via M-PAiSA on October 27, 2023.

In a separate case , a 44-year-old woman of Yavulo, Sigatoka appeared at the Sigatoka Magistrate’s Court charged with four counts of obtaining financial advantage and one count possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Laisani Toni Batiriega was arrested by the Police M-PAiSA Taskforce for unlawfully obtaining funds for Back to School Education Assistance from a public member between January 8 and 9.

Batirerega was granted bail under the condition that she produce two sureties and pay a bail bond of $2000, surrender all her travel documents and engage lawyer by the next mention date.

The case has been adjourned to April 4 for mention.
