The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) says the National Budget announced last Friday, gave the momentum to push ahead with a wide-ranging reform agenda—adding 40 new positions, investing in security and intelligence, and strengthening rehabilitation under a revised framework.

The FCS extended its gratitude to Government for the increased budget allocation to $62.5 million compared to $57.8m in the last budget.

The increase is a significant step forward that would address critical development areas in its operational and capital projects in the next financial year,” the FCS said.

“This budget increase is a significant step forward that will address critical development areas in our operational and capital projects.”

It noted alignment with the new National Development Plan 2025–2029, and the continuation of the Justice Enterprise Environment (JEE) system.

“Our policy direction outlines strategies in areas of safety, security, prison enterprise, intelligence, and effective rehabilitation.”

On accountability, FCS stressed the importance of oversight.

“The measure of FCS success has been facilitated by a strict monitoring and evaluation regime designed under the National Planning Office implementation framework.

“We will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders through our revised rehabilitation framework… contributing to the reduction of crime and building a safer Fiji for all its citizens and investors.

“We commend the efforts of families who are genuinely committed to cooperate in the rehabilitation of inmates.”
