Navatu Secondary School in Cakaudrove Province raised $16,847 during its two-day bazaar.

The school organised a bazaar so that it could meet the cost of constructing a one block building with three classrooms amounting to $83,000.

School principal Ilikena Tomasi said they wanted to build a standard technical drawing room, Year 13 classroom, a room for the physical education teacher with a sick bay and storeroom for school assets.

“Our student roll for Year 12 increased from 59 to 70 this year and we are targeting a 100 per cent pass,” Mr Tomasi said.

“If we achieve this then we need a room to cater them in Year 13 next year and this is why we are preparing it now.”

The school was established in 1993 and from next year it wants to offer office technology and computer class.

A computer teacher was posted to the school in the last week of term.

“We are also thankful to the Office of the Prime Minister for supporting the school with $29,000 to secure the lease title for a school playground at Mataqali Ketei,” he said.

He said the school would consult with its ministry’s asset management unit to decide on when to start the project.
