Over 5500 children and youth from all over the nation and the Pacific are currently participating in a one-week life learning camporee at Naravuka in Seaqaqa, Macuata.

The campsite along Seaqaqa highway is about 45 minutes’ drive from Labasa Town.

The 12th Fiji Mission Pathfinder Camporee is one of the biggest gatherings of children and youths in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Officiating at the opening event yesterday, President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said the concept of ‘Pathfinder’ is built on the principle that “children learn best by example, rather than teaching.”

“As President of Fiji and Chief Scout, myself, I am well versed with Camporees as they exist to present wonderful opportunities for pathfinders to come together and participate in the vast range of activities, meet new friends and to take a break from your homes and schools with the underlying aim to learn lifelong skills,” he said.

“As the Traditional Chief of Macuata, I warmly welcome you and hope that your crossing over the seas was an unforgettable exciting experience,” Ratu Wiliame said.

“I bring greetings from the Government and all citizens of Fiji, and I particularly thank the church leaders for this opportunity as I will be meeting with most of you and importantly have an opportunity to walk through your camps and view your activities.”

Children and youths participating in this camporee will be engaged in numerous lifelong skills activities, which include community work, interacting with the villages, farming with communities at Naravuka, learning to swim and fish, cooking for themselves, and most importantly learning how to live independently.
