Male Kuruituku had just sat down to have breakfast at his home in Drasa, Lautoka yesterday morning, when he heard a loud crash come from the main road.
He knew it was a road accident, but he not sure how it happened. It involved a carrier and a fielder.
He said the carrier had three female passengers and the driver, while the fielder had a couple with the husband driving the vehicle.

“When I ran to the road, I saw the carrier on the side and the fielder was not moving, all I heard was a bang, that was around 8am,” Mr Kuruituku said.
“The fielder was damaged so badly on the driver’s side that the vehicle almost folded in half, we tried to take out the driver and it was good that the other minibus drivers parked and we all helped take the passengers out.”
He said the female passengers in the carrier managed to come out through the back, however the driver was badly injured.
“We tried to turn the vehicle right side up so that we could take him out; he was still alive, but we could see the bone on his arm, the flesh had all peeled off and his legs looked broken,” he said.
“When we carried out the driver for the fielder, the blood was just gushing out of his body and his wife was also badly injured. I’m sure that they will survive because there was a lot of effort put into taking them out of the car,” he said.
He said the Police and the National Fire Authority (NFA) arrived after 10 minutes. The NFA and Police vehicles transported the passengers and drivers to the Lautoka Hospital.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed there had been no fatalities.
“The cause of the accident is not yet ascertained as both drivers are admitted (in hospital),” she said.
