Mother, 8 Children Mourn Death Of Husband, Father

A mother, who lost her hus­band in a road accident, has been in mourning with her eight children at their Vunisea Settlement home in Ra­kiraki.

Menani Momoivalu recalled the moments leading up to the fa­tal accident when her husband, Moce Naililiwalu, wanted to say goodbye on that fateful day before he headed to Ba.

Mr Naililiwalu, 56, a cane lorry driver and sugarcane farmer died on Friday morning near Barotu Village in Rakiraki after he alleg­edly lost control of the cane truck he was driving causing it to veer off the road.

An emotional Mrs Momoivalu said her husband called on Fri­day morning before he left for Rarawai Mill in Ba.

“Around 6am he got up had his shower and went to work,” she said.

“He called at 9am saying he wanted to speak to the kids and say bye to them.

“Little did I know that my chil­dren would be hearing from him for the last time.”

The late Mr Naililiwalu worked as a farmer for more than 20 years.

The truck which was driven by the deceased.

“Being the only bread winner of the family he always ensured we were looked after, especially our children,” Mrs Momoivalu said.

“The funeral mass for my late husband will be held at the settle­ment on Friday, August 23, 2019.”

Police spokesperson, Ana Nai­soro said Mr Naililiwalu died at the scene of the accident.

He is Fiji’s latest road fatality, The road death toll now stands at 33 compared to 46 for the same pe­riod last year.
