A mother of four had her dreams shattered after her son drowned at Natadola Beach, Coral Coast on Sunday.

The deceased is 15-year-old, Rihan Ali, a Year 11 student at Nadi Muslim College.

“My world is shattered into pieces because my son whom I loved dearly has left me and gone too soon,’’ his mother Imrana Ali said yesterday.

The incident happened around midday where the family as he had gone for a picnic at Natadola beach on Sunday.

The victim’s father, Imran Ali, said his son was well-behaved and a bright student at school.

“He loved to take part in religious activities at the Mulomulo mosque,” Mr Ali said.

According to Mr Ali, Rihan rarely misses school and always looked forward to his classes and seeing his friends every day.

“He is always being respectful towards his elders and received awards for portraying the best of his religious values at school.”

Mrs Ali said that she would now have to accustom herself into preparing two school lunches now instead of three.

“He was insisting on Sunday morning that we go for the picnic that we had earlier planned for,” Mrs Ali said.

“Seeing the change in weather I told my family that it was not a good idea to go,’’ she said.

“Since he is my second youngest I have a soft spot for him; I just had to agree on going for the picnic as school was also about to start on Tuesday.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “The victim was with his family for a picnic at Natadola when the incident happened.”

The funeral took place yesterday at the Mulomulo Muslim Cemetery.
