"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” — this was the mantra that guided Yolanda Krystel Goundar, 35, as she received a Trophy of Excellence for her Post-Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.

Ms Goundar was one of 35 students to earn this prestigious award.

Balancing her studies with the demands of motherhood hasn’t been easy for Ms Goundar, but the support of her family has made the journey manageable.

Their encouragement and love have been the key to overcoming the challenges she faced every day.

“I can’t express how grateful I am for the strong family support I’ve had throughout this journey, especially my close circle of friends who have morally supported me during some of my toughest moments,” said Ms Goundar.

She thanked her mother and siblings for their unwavering help with her children during exams and study sessions. Ms Goundar, whose passion for newborns has always driven her, also shared how her experiences working with skilled nurses and doctors deepened her understanding of midwifery.

“I learned the importance of caring not just for the babies, but also for the mothers. That’s what kept me motivated to continue my studies.”

She is a registered nurse at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

“Trust God and never lose faith in him,” Ms Goundar said.
