The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is working with Police to investigate the alleged boat accident that led to the death of a 15-year-old boy near Nasali Landing in Rewa on Sunday, August 30.
MSAF acting chief executive officer Illiesa Batisaresare confirmed the joint investigation, saying the agency is committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

His mother, Sulueti Saweya Kata, a shop attendant at the landing, said she last saw her son when he left to transport passengers to Nabua Village, a short five- to 10-minute trip.
“I bid him farewell, not knowing it would be the last time I would hear his voice,” Ms Kata said.
Minutes later, she overheard other water-taxi operators discussing an accident involving Kata. When she rushed to the riverside, she learned his boat had reportedly crashed, leaving him missing with the outboard engine.
“I ran to others seeking help. It was dark and cold, and my son was nowhere to be found. I was scared, but I held onto hope, believing he might survive,” she said.
Police and MSAF continue investigations as the devastated mother awaits answers and justice for her teenage son.
