MSAF probes collision that killed two men off Qamea waters

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has launched an investigation into a fatal maritime collision near Qamea, Taveuni.

The incident, which occurred on April 9, resulted in two deaths.

MSAF said a team has been deployed to carry out initial assessments as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The authority is working closely with the Fiji Police Force and other relevant stakeholders and will await preliminary findings.

MSAF has also reminded mariners, boat operators and vessel owners to exercise extreme caution at sea, including maintaining proper lookout, following safe navigation practices and ensuring vessels are properly certified.
