Medical Services in the Pacific (MSP) reaffirms its commitment to ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) at the Tailevu Provincial ‘solo’ event on Friday at the Nausori District School.

The event brought together close to 65,000 villagers from 146 villages from 22 districts of Tailevu.

The 22 districts to mark the culmination of 16 Days of Activism and its 2023 theme of “Unite! - Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”.

The MSP team will raise awareness of VAWG and essential support services available for survivors. These include MSP’s One Stop Shop that provides holistic professional and specialized care for people who experience sexual assault and Gender-based Violence (GBV).

As well as distributing hand-crafted fans carrying EVAWG messages, MSP is advocating to raise awareness of gender-based violence, sexual gender-based violence and EVAWG. R

There will be face painting, photo and video booths for children, and professional counselling and legal advice.

Ashna Shaleen, country director for MSP, highlighted the importance of the event.

“We want to mark the closing of this year’s 16 Days of Activism, and what better way but to collaborate with the villages of Tailevu. The 16 Days of Activism on violence against women is a global initiative that focuses the world’s attention on the prevention of violence against women and girls.

“Our collaboration with the Tailevu province, Fiji Police Eastern Division and the grassroots communities underscores the commitment that we are making make to combat gender-based violence,” she says, “a commitment that all of us in Fiji need to make.

‘’The United National Trust Fund is assisting MSP’s work in the province, and at the fundraising event we are keen to demonstrate the importance of investing in women’s safety and the well-being of their families and communities. We would love to see everyone drop by the MSP booth – men, women, children – to find out more.”
