Multicultural Centre Goes To Communities To Assist Women

The Labasa Multicultural Centre has gone out to various communities in order to assist women in creating income generating projects.
Administrator, Prabha Naicker, said since the pandemic hit, women had been especially affected in being able to provide for their families.
Ms Naicker said the centre decided to go out into the communities to assist these women.

“The first community we reached out to was Waiqele where women were taught some art in making creative pot plant holders using rope,” she said.
“There was also a story telling session where women were able to share their experiences and the challenges they faced during this pandemic.
“Women will be able to utilise the resources around them and with their creativity, they can earn some money to help their families.
“We used plastic bottles to make pot plants or even planted vegetables as another way of addressing issues on climate change.
“Projects are developed in such a way that we can inculcate issues that’s affecting us, such as climate change.”
Ms Naicker ensured that the attendees were fully vaccinated. She said they had also opened up the centre for sewing classes, screen printing, creative arts and yoga.
Fully vaccinated students would now be able to access classes for tabla and harmonia.
Ms Naicker thanked the Department of Heritage and Arts for funding them projects.
