A 38-year-old woman, who saved six people stuck in a vehicle after it was swept away by flood waters, was given a special award during the International Women’s Day celebration in Labasa yesterday.
On February 3 in Seaqaqa, Macuata Province, Virisila Silivere was alerted by her daughter who begged her to save the stricken family.
At the celebration organised by the Labasa Women Forum the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Sashi Kiran presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Ms Silivere.
