Nabala Secondary School drum band received a new set of instruments from Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee in Labasa on August 8, 2024.
Nabala Secondary School, the only school with a drum band in the Northern Division, has received a long-awaited upgrade to its musical equipment after 16 years.
The $8000 donation, which includes four single drums, one brass drum, and one set of four tenor drums, was made by the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee.
Nabala Secondary School principal Epi Raikivi expressed excitement and gratitude on behalf of the 14-member band, comprised of hostel students from Years Nine to 13, hailing from 11 villages.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Master Seru Tuidravutu, who had been with the band since 2012 and had sought assistance from the festival committee.
“The band has been a part of the festival entertainment group for five years,” Mr Raikivi said.
Though the teacher resigned earlier this year, his leadership was instrumental in securing the much-needed equipment.
The school is located approximately 33 kilometres from Labasa Town.
The band, dressed in light blue and navy blue uniforms, frequently supports other schools, organisations, and community events with their performances.
Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North Committee president Zaheen Ibrahim highlighted the festival’s commitment to community and music education.
“This donation underscores our dedication to community development, skill enhancement, and support for music education,” Ms Ibrahim said.
She added that the festival had previously provided $5000 worth of equipment last year, with an additional $3000 worth of equipment in their latest batch as part of their long-term commitment.
