Nadali Accident: Fiji Police Hit Out At Social Media Users Sharing Video Of Accident

“As we have stated time and time again, social media users need to be mindful of what they post with regards to images and videos captured at accident sites as the victims have families and loved ones who are already emotionally dealing with the loss of a loved one or someone who is trying to recover from a traumatising experience,” Ms Naisoro said.

Police have hit out at social media users who are sharing a video of the car involved in a fatal accident at the Nadali by-pass over the weekend.

The video shows rescuers removing one of the two people involved in the accident.

It was widely circulated on Facebook messenger.

Fiji Police Force spokesperson Ana Naisoro said it was unfortunate that some social media users still could not see the emotional impact their posts had on grieving family members.

“As we have stated time and time again, social media users need to be mindful of what they post with regards to images and videos captured at accident sites as the victims have families and loved ones who are already emotionally dealing with the loss of a loved one or someone who is trying to recover from a traumatising experience,” Ms Naisoro said.

“If for a moment social media users would put themselves in the victim and family members place, they would then realise just how painful it is to be seeing images and videos of their loved ones being shared and hurtful comments made further adding on to their grief, which is why we urge users to be mindful of what they post.”
