Nadi fisherman Dineshwar Reddy has again made a name for himself after catching his second 200kg plus Kawakawa in just two weeks.

The 34-year-old was overwhelmed about his first catch on February 11 and never thought he would again catch another Kawakawa of a similar size in less than a month.

Mr Reddy said the weight of the Kawakawa/ Grouper was 220kg.

He said it took more than five men to lift the fish onto the boat.

“I caught it this morning (yesterday morning) around 6.30am while I was fishing and, just like the last time, we always try out pulling the big fish with the big line, 200-pound fishing line with the number 1 hook, and I used a sea snake as bait and I put it behind the boat while pulling the net in,” he said.

“This one I caught in the same area where I caught the last one, at the back of Sonaisali Island.

“We had a 200kg scale, but I think we need a bigger scale to get the correct weight for this.”

He said the Kawakawa was at least 192 cm long, which was bigger compared with his previous catch which was 182 m.

“After catching the last one I thought it was a once- in-a-lifetime thing and I would never be able to catch something again this size, but when I caught this one I was so excited,” Mr Reddy said.
