Nadi Granny Grateful For Youth Club’s Assistance

Timely assistance has arrived for two Nadi families thanks to a Lautoka youth group. Among the fami­lies, a 57-year-old grandmother has expressed her gratitude to the group for their charitable help.

The group, known as ‘One Nation Our People Youth Club’ provided the two families with various basic necessities.

The youth club was formed from March last year and has taken up initiatives to reach out to unprivileged families through the support of their sponsors.

Since their establishment, they have assisted over 500 families who have been affected by the pandemic.

Their acting president, Suleman Ali, said doing a noble act towards the unprivileged is worthwhile and reward­ing.

Fifty-seven-year-old grandmother, Krishna Kanti, who lives with his three children and four grandchildren said her social welfare was their means of survival.

“This is a timely assistance for us. At the moment no one is working. My daughter has been laid off as a gar­ment factory work­er. We survive with my social welfare money,” she said.

“These young boys have brought me to tears. I wanted to thank them for this assistance as it will help put food on the table for us.

Meanwhile, a disabled mother of three, Saiyazimim said the provision from the youth group was just what they needed.

“Sometimes I go without any food because no one is with me to cook the food. I can’t cook the food with the disabil­ity I have,” she said.

“I live with my two sons. One of them is mentally re­tarded and the other one does grass cutting in order for us to survive. If my son is home with me, he does all the cooking and also helps to take me to the washroom or to the bathroom.

“The young boys provide me with all that I need of, food and diapers. I want to thank them for their kindness.”
