Businessman Nilesh Kumar has strongly urged the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to remove the taxi stand opposite the Nadi Town Market and to reinstall traffic lights near the Bargain Box shop.
Speaking during a stakeholder consultation on the new Nadi Town two-way layout at the Nadi Civic Centre on Tuesday, Mr Kumar said the current situation was chaotic.
“Right now, in front of Bargain Box, it’s like a jungle. I can’t even make a turn. I have to literally roll down my window and raise my hand to signal other drivers to give way,” he said.

“It becomes very hard, and accidents will happen. Just bring back the lights and see how it works.”
Mr Kumar did not mince his words when addressing FRA West executives, saying the taxi stand was taking up too much space and affecting traffic flow.
“I have nothing against our taxi driver brothers,” he said.
“But if you remove that taxi stand, it will improve traffic flow—especially for people using the road up to the Post Office to avoid the main street.”
FRA West road safety manager Peni Tuinona said all points raised by Mr Kumar have been noted and taken into consideration.
