Nadroga-Navosa women raise nearly $95K for student hostel

Women of the Nadroga- Navosa province have raised $94,894 to fund the construction of a student hostel near the Fiji National University (FNU) campus in Lautoka.
The funds were collected during the province's "Juvou Day" event, held last week at Yako Village in Nadroga. The initiative is led by the 'Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Nadroga Navosa.
Spokesperson Siteri Bulouvere confirmed that land has already been purchased opposite the FNU Lautoka campus, which the group has leased to build the planned hostel.

"This is a monetary contribution from women across the province to provide accommodation for our youth pursuing tertiary and secondary education," Ms Bulouvere said.
"The aim is to give them a safe and secure place to stay, instead of relying on others for shelter."
She said the group's decision to invest in education reflects their commitment to the future of their children and generations to come.
Closing the event, traditional leader Na Turaga Nakaria, alongside Yako's Liuliu ni Vei Tokatoka, made the final contribution of $13,388, bringing the total to $94,894.
Nadroga-Navosa province consists of 22 districts and 158 villages.
