Naikanivatu wins gold in Queensland Golden Gloves competition

Anaseini Naikanivatu won Fiji’s first gold medal at the Queensland Golden Gloves competition in Australia on Wednesday.

She fought in the women’s youth 70 kilogrammes division.

And amateur boxing national coach Cameron Todd could not be more proud of her achievement at her first international competition.

Todd indicated that three boxers made it to yesterday’s semi-final, which was held after this edition went to press last night. The boxers include team captain Aminiasi Saratibau, Mitieli Navuasese and Semi Koroi.

Sakiusa Narara will fight in today’s semi-final in the elite 85kg.

The team also won a silver medal to Norman Amram on Wednesday. Amram fought in the Under-17 60kg division.

“It was a great performance by Anaseini (Naikanivatu) with her first time representing Fiji. I was very impressed,” Todd said.

“The team is doing really well so far.

“Good wins to Semi Koroi, Amini (Saratibau) and Sakiusa (Narara). They all progress to the semi-finals.”

Narara who fought in the 85kg open división in his first international outing knocked out his opponent in the first round.

Other boxers includes Elijah Qiokata, Iokimi Navuasese, Geoffrey Titifanua, and Violet Baleinagasau.
