Naisele is new higher education director

The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) has appointed Eci Tekuru Naisele as its new director.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro made the announcement yesterday during a press conference at the Higher Education Commission headquarters in Suva.

Mr Naisele is from Qoma Island, Tailevu and holds a PhD from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi (university) in New Zealand.

His research earned him the Outstanding Indigenous Research Award in 2023.

“We have a visionary leader, a dedicated researcher, and a champion for indigenous knowledge and innovation,” said Mr Radrodro.

“His leadership will be crucial in guiding the FHEC as it plays a vital role in our nation’s future.”

Mr Radrodro said the appointment was a strategic decision that would shape the future of higher education system in Fiji.

“We are entrusting Dr Naisele with the responsibility to lead FHEC towards a vision of excellence, inclusivity, and innovation, aligning our educational goals with national development and global standards,” he said.

Mr Naisele’s career which spans three decades, includes roles as a classroom teacher, head of department, assistant principal, and senior education officer.

He has also served with FHEC for more than a decade in various capacities including manager for Qualifications and Research.

As director of the FHEC, Mr Naisele will oversee the regulatory body responsible for ensuring quality assurance, registration of higher education providers, and the accreditation of qualifications throughout Fiji.
