Naitasiri Wants More Teachers

The shortage of primary school teachers was among the key issues raised to the Ministry of Education during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting yesterday in Tamavua Village, Suva.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said the ministry had been addressing the issue.
“Lack of teachers has been a problem for various schools in the province. We have acknowledged this and will work to find the best way to assist them,” Mr Radrodro said.

“It is a legacy issue inherited by the Coalition Government, involving shortages of primary school teachers. We have taken steps to recruit secondary school teacher graduates who are willing to teach at the primary level.”
He said the concern about the need for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects had been brought to his attention.
“We are working to address this by collaborating with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) in the coming calendar year to improve the recruitment of teacher trainees,” Mr Radrodro said.
“We may be able to encourage them to become part of this initiative and graduate as teachers in the areas where there is the greatest need.”
He encouraged students in the province to dream big.
“Dream beyond the walls of the classroom. Opportunities are always available, so don’t doubt yourself as you work towards achieving your goals. Stay focused on your objectives and always put God first in everything you pursue.”
The Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting was held at Tamavua Village.
