Thirty-five (35) students who were not able to have classes at the Naleba Youth Training Centre will resume classes next week.

This is because of the fire that destroyed their dormitory in April.

The training centre which comes under the Ministry of Youth and Sports got burnt on April 14.

The fire destroyed the boys’ dormitory which led to the suspension of classes.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru, while inspecting the facilities on Wednesday, said students would return this weekend.

Classes are expected to resume next week.

The students were sent home temporarily because of the fire.

He said a temporary shelter had been used as the boys’ dormitory while a new one is being built.

“We are committed to ensuring that the students of Naleba Youth Training Centre have a safe and conducive learning environment,” Mr Saukuru said.

“Classes will resume next week and we are working diligently to rebuild the boys’ dormitory.

“The resilience and determination shown by the students and staff in the face of adversity is inspiring.”

Centre staff Iosefa Naqitawa acknowledged the ministry’s prompt action in facilitating an immediate resumption plan.

He said such a move given that most of the youths had to be sent back home for almost a month.

“We can’t wait for classes to resume because this is the space for learning, of progress,” he said..
