Nasese Brings Tailevu, Rewa Residents To City Lights

Residents of rural Tailevu, Rewa, and Nausori at the Christmas lights at Suva’s Civic Centre
Hundreds of residents from rural Tailevu, Rewa, and Nausori were treated to a festive, free journey courtesy of Nasese buses to view the Christmas lights adorning Suva’s Civic Centre this week.
The idea behind this was to give back to the people of Fiji, and Nasese buses provided free transportation via 14 buses.
Director of Nasese Buses Jack Kumar said many families enjoyed the day and experienced the lights, stalls, and Christmas spirit that the Suva Municipal Council had worked so hard to create.

“We felt that many residing in rural areas would miss out on experiencing the enchanting Christmas lights due to the considerable distances they’d have to cover, especially during the evening hours,” Mr Kumar said.
“For years, Nasese buses have bridged the rural and urban by transporting Fijians all over the country to their destinations; in the process, we are doing our part for the Fijian economy, and we thought this would be a great symbolic gesture for Fijians this Christmas.
Delainamanu headman Movono Roko thanked the bus company for thinking of villagers.
“The children were excited because most of them never see such lights and to be here and to experience it was something they were thankful for.
Almost everyone from the village went and for the bus to be free for us is just another level,” Mr Roko said.
“I hope that this will not be the first or the last, but the first of many more.

Nabua Settlement in Waikete, Tailevu resident Esala Dravo said: “I don’t know who came up with the idea, but it was good.
We were able to take our children and grandchildren out without having to worry about the fare.”
