Nasinu Town Council has called on ratepayers to contact them and come up with payment plans.
Nasinu chief executive officer Anurashika Bari said the council was also trying to find out as to why people have not been able to pay rates.
She said the Council would soon take legal action against some defaulters with the hope of getting rates.

The failure of people to pay rates has led to a serious cash flow issue at the council.
“Most of the money goes towards solid waste collection leaving not enough to carry out other services,” she said.
At this point in time, the Nasinu Town Council is owed $9 million in rates and arrears.
Of the current 11,252 ratepayers, only 57 per cent have paid rates.
