The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is currently in the process of formulating a National Policy on Protective Security.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Submission on Foreign Affairs and Defence Director General for National Security and Defence Council Secretariat, Timoci Natuva said the National Policy would increase the level of protection for information, personnel and critical assets.

Mr Natuva also updated the committee on the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Force (RFMF) White Paper progress.

The objective of the two White Papers is to outline the capabilities that the RFMF and the Fiji Police Force require to meet the national objectives set in the National Security Strategy (NSS).

He said the drafts of the White Papers had been submitted to the office of the Solicitor General (OSG) in June 2017 for comments. However, there were also plans to review the drafts.

Commenting on the National Security Action Plan, Mr Natuva said the plan would develop a detailed and prioritised list of actions that would give effect to Fiji’s national security objectives.

Mr Natuva added that NSS would set out Fiji’s national security interests and objectives as well as strategic priorities to meet those objectives.
