Receiving a fiber boat and engine may seem insignificant to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it means the world to them.

This was made possible when Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro traveled to Yasayasa Moala to visit schools.

Mr Radrodro was accompanied by representatives from various ministries.

50 years no minister

He is the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in over 50 years.

Navesi Primary School head teacher Seru Luvu was emotional when asked about the significance of the boat to the school.

“It is long overdue. We have been asking for it for a long time, and to finally receive it is just emotional. Now we don’t have to ask others for a boat when we need to take any of the students to the health center,” Mr Luvu said.

“There were times when we asked for a boat, and they would speak harshly to us or say that if it were free, we could use it. Today will be a day we will always remember because we will not face any embarrassment in the future.

“We will ensure that this boat is kept in good condition so that it lasts a long time. We have even received life jackets for the students.”

Mr Radrodro advised Mr Luvu to ensure the boat is well-maintained and that only a licenced boat driver operates it adding that is used for the purpose for which it was donated.
