The vanua o Navosa is calling for more clarification on the burning down of the Vale-ni-Bose Levu Vakaturaga (Great Council of Chiefs complex).

This was highlighted by Nasoni Navura, the district representative (Mata-ni-Tikina) of Noikoro, Nadroga during the GCC consultation review at the True Blue Hotel in Sigatoka yesterday.

Mr Navura submitted his list of suggestions and expressed the vanua’s need for further clarification on the destruction of the complex.

He suggested that it would be best to investigate the burning down of the complex before re-establishing the GCC, because the vanua and people of Fiji do not know the reality of what had happened.

“In order to move forward we have to deal with things of the past,” he said.

Mr Navura emphasised that the GCC building at the iTaukei Trust Fund Complex in Nasova was a chiefly house that had been sacrificed and contributed to by their chiefs.

He also highlighted issues related to land and its laws, which were implemented by the former government.

He urged the re-establishment of the GCC to address the grievances of all the landowners of Navosa.

Review team leader Jone Baledrokadroka acknowledged the reports from the police and the National Fire Authority, but also recognised the public’s concerns that there may be more to the burning down of the complex.
