The officers of the Nadi Police Station have made past mistakes that tested public trust, and some actions have caused pain, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka.

Mr Gavoka made the remarks during the official opening of the new police station today.

The new facility, delivered by Cope Construction Ltd at a cost of nearly $20 million, was completed on 30 November 30, 2023.

Maisuria Design Ltd led the design, and all engineering and safety certifications have been secured.

“We acknowledge that challenges exist. Past mistakes have tested trust, and some actions have caused pain,” Mr Gavoka said.

“But today, we turn the page. This station is a symbol of renewal, a place where integrity and courage are not just expected but lived.

“Every officer here has the opportunity to lead by example, to inspire confidence, and to usher in a new era of trust in the Force.”

Mr Gavoka urged them to serve with courage.

“Serve with integrity. Uphold the law with fairness and honour. Protect every person in this district. Lead with heart and purpose. The nation stands with you because your work matters.”

Mr Gavoka highlighted Nadi’s importance as a gateway to Fiji.

“It is home to schools and farms, resorts and transport networks, and it welcomes thousands of visitors from across the globe.

“Safety here is not just about enforcing the law. It is about creating an environment where people can live, learn, and thrive without fear.

One of the station’s key features is its dedicated Tourist Police Team.

“These officers are the first line of reassurance for our visitors. They protect not only people but also the reputation of Fiji as a safe and welcoming destination. Their work strengthens trust, supports local businesses, and ensures that every traveller leaves memories of warmth and security.”

Mr Gavoka noted Nadi’s rapid growth, more flights, families, businesses, and opportunities.

“Growth brings promises, but it also brings responsibility. Officers must rise to meet that responsibility with vigilance, professionalism, and partnership with the community.

“Your work protects livelihoods, strengthens peace, and preserves the well-being of everyone in this district,” he added.
