Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu has urged respect and unity across communities, saying Fiji’s new $50 banknote should be seen as a symbol of the nation’s multicultural identity and shared history.
The redesigned note, launched on Tuesday by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, features the MV Leonidas and a woman representing the Girmitiyas—their journey and massive contribution to Fiji's development that continues today.
The design has drawn criticism on social media, particularly targeting the Indo-Fijian community.
