Capacity building to improve customer service in the Northern Division is paramount and this begins with the construction of the new Land Transport Authority (LTA) Labasa head office.

Officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the LTA Labasa outlet on Friday; the Minister for Transport and Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, said capacity building remained Government's priority.

Ro Filipe said Government would invest $7.2 million to build two office spaces and a weighbridge facility with construction expected to be completed by August 21, next year.

Construction works will commence from on June 3, with Public Building Solutions (PBS) engaged as main contractor.

He said decentralisation of LTA services to all parts of the country was vital to ensuring better service delivery; this leads to timely compliance to road rules.

The old LTA Labasa head office at Vatunibale was burnt to the ground in January; 2014 and it's been 11 years in wait for a new office.

Ro Filipe said the new LTA Labasa office would be fully fledged and will serve as the regional hub of transport services in the North.
