Business looks bright now for a sub-clan (tokatoka) in Nadi after a timely help from Government.

Last week, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica handed over a new excavator to the Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi, marking a significant step in supporting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The excavator will ease the financial burden of the company and increase its productivity.

The company has diversified into gravel extraction, utilising local resources to create a sustainable business that can benefit its owners, the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr Kamikamica emphasised Government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for traditional landowners and praised the efforts of the local community in establishing a successful business.

“This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, demonstrates our belief in the potential of rural enterprises to drive economic growth,” Mr Kamikamica said.

He acknowledged the challenges micro and small businesses faced in accessing finance, reiterating Government’s focus on exploring innovative financing solutions, such as small offers and crowdfunding.

He encouraged community members to engage in upcoming public consultations on the Access to Business Funding Bill, aimed at introducing alternative financing mechanisms.

The excavator will enhance their operations, allowing for increased production and improved efficiency, ultimately boosting local economic benefits.

“The event is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of our rural people. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians.”

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo thanked Government for assisting them.

“We set up our business two years ago. Through the extraction of gravel, we bought a truck, but we still hire an excavator from our contractor. This year, through the cooperation implemented by Government, we followed the process and received this machine. This excavator will ease our work and it will double our production. We will earn more revenue,” he said.
