New Fridge, Sofa, TV Set All Destroyed In Home Fire

A Nasinu couple had just bought a new fridge, sofa and a TV set a few months ago to refurbish their home of 25 years.

But that and their home were all destroyed in a morning fire yesterday.

Jagdish Chand and his wife, Reshmi Lata,  watched in tears as they saw the last ambers die down.

What started off as a routine morning for the Valelevu couple became one of the most devastating day for them.

Mr Chand, who works as a carpenter for Parmar’s Construction, was at work with his wife when the fire started at their two-bedroom wooden home in Ralagi Road in Nasinu.

No one was at the house when the fire started.

“I worked so hard with the little that I had been getting from the construction company,” Mr Chand said.

“But within minutes it was gone.”

He said he received a call that his house was on fire at around 10am.

The couple live with their son who was a student of Hilton Special School.

An emotional Ms Lata said: “We had just bought a fridge, a TV and a sofa set and all that has been destroyed by the fire.

“My husband had just extended and renovated the house and we had just furnished a few months ago. Now it’s all gone,” she said.

“We are so heartbroken at what has occurred today, the only thing we saved was the clothes we were wearing.”

According to eyewitness Sneh Lata, the fire broke out at 9.45am after they heard an explosion from inside the house.

“We called the Fire Authority and though they were here on time they were not able to save anything.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that Police investigations together with the National Fire Authority continues.
