A newly formed church in Labasa marked a milestone on Good Friday, holding its first Easter service since being established earlier this year.

Anugrah Full Gospel Church gathered about 40 members to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, despite the challenges of setting up a new congregation.

Pastor Suren Nadan Pillay said the occasion would remain significant for the church.

He said the service marked the first time the congregation had organised and celebrated Good Friday together since its establishment in late February.

Pst Pillay said the church had faced financial challenges during its formation but had managed to establish itself.

He preached on the importance of the cross, urging Christians to value Christ’s sacrifice and turn away from sin.

“The communion will hopefully ignite the inner need of each follower of Christ to stay away from sinful deeds and live a life like Christ,” he said.

A communion service was held, with bread and wine symbolising the body and blood of Christ.

Pst Pillay also reminded members of the need to remain steadfast in faith despite modern-day distractions.

He encouraged them to reflect Christ-like values such as love, compassion, humility and sacrifice in their daily lives.

The church currently holds services at Jerry’s Daycare in Labasa Town, with Sunday services starting at 9.30am.

Pst Pillay also shared condolences with families affected by recent tragedies.

“Road deaths, funerals, property loss or loss of loved ones, I share my love for you all, but continue to hold onto the faith and love for Christ and his congregation,” he said.
