New machines to boost PWD operations

Public Works Department (PWD) is expected to hit the ground running after it was reinstated by Government last year.
Since returning in the past few months since it was closed by the past government, PWD operations now have been boosted with the delivery of three trucks, two excavators and two bulldozers in Suva on Wednesday.
The hand-over of the earthmoving machines and trucks was conducted at the Vision Motors Showroom at Vatuwaqa to officials from the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport.

Mr Baleilevuka said they were part of new set of machines and equipment for the ministry.
“These machines will improve road standards and conditions and facilitate accessibility for economic activities,” Mr Baleilevuka said.
“They will also enhance our capacity to undertake road construction and maintenance works in rural and remote areas.”

The ministry received:
- Two large excavators
- Two D6 bulldozers
- Two dumper trucks
- One flat-top truck
The eight machines are worth $1,627,104.
For the current financial year, the Ministry has been allocated $5 million for the upgrade and enhancement of rural roads.
Mr Baleilevuka said the new equipment and vehicles would be used in upcoming projects.
